The Officers and Board of DC LERA invite you to
join us at our
The Job Corps in the 21st
Century
A National and Local Perspective
Noon – Wednesday, September 22,
2010
Georgetown University Faculty Club
Please join Edna Primrose,
National Director for the Office of Job Corps at the U.S.
Department of Labor, and Jeffrey Barton, Director of
the Potomac Job Corps Center for lunch on Wednesday,
September 22.
Our guest speakers will provide
us with their uniquely informed views of the operation and
direction of this significant program. The Job Corps,
established through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as
part of President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty, is now
the nation’s largest residential education and vocational
training program for economically disadvantaged youth. The
Job Corps currently trains more than 100,000 young men and
women ages 16–24 at 124 centers across the United States and
offers training in more than 100 technical areas. It
promises to be a fascinating look inside a critical program.
This luncheon event is a special
joint presentation of DC LERA and the non-partisan
Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor at
Georgetown University. Not only will the topic be
timely, but also it will be a great networking event, so
check the details below and sign up now.
